bodies

Bodies are exploring the relationship between identity, gender, physicality and perception through a non-binary lens.

The works approach the body in a state of transformation. They move through states of dysphoria and desire, closeness and detachment, where the body can feel both intensely familiar and entirely foreign at the same time. There is an ongoing tension between what is felt and what is seen.

The gaze is turned inwards and outwards. Other bodies can appear effortless, almost unreal in their harmony, while the own body is perceived fragmented and questioned. The foreign is idealised, while the self is caught in a process of correction, the need to shift, to refine, to disappear.

The need for transformation emerges. Not only physical, but within. How can I change my point of view? A longing for lightness, for androgyny, for a form that resists clear definition. How to soften the edges of dysphoria?

Bodies are an ongoing work series, a dialogue with the outer form about discomfort, becoming and a lifelong shifting relationship.

The portals

There is a world beneath the one we perceive on a daily basis. It’s not separate, but layered into it, much quieter and therefor easily missed.

The portals come from an idea that within the most ordinary spaces subtle openings exist. In dirty corners of your city, in places that feel out of place or in seconds of an interaction with a stranger that passes too quickly to notice. We rarely see them though. We’re too occupied, too focused on our next move, too disconnected from the universe.

This work is about fluidity and remembering the preciousness of ordinary moments and how they inhabit magic. It is about paying attention to almost imperceptible moments, where something shifts. As if crossing an invisible line, a portal as some might say.

The portals are a self-reminder to be conscious, to be openminded and let go of control, to let myself fall into spaces and dreams. Just getting sucked in by the magic matter.

The shown Artworks are available. Based on this concept I also paint individual portals on demand.
